NAMES NEW PUBLISHER IN SOUTH DAKOTA
Augusta,
Ga. - Rita Thomas has been named publisher of the Yankton
(S.D.) Daily Press & Dakotan. Thomas also will become publisher
of the Yankton Publishing Group, which includes a nondaily
newspaper (Vermillion Plain Talk) and two free community papers
(Missouri Valley Shopper and The Broadcaster).
When Thomas, 33, assumes her
new responsibilities on May 1, she will become the first female
publisher in the 139-year history of the Press & Dakotan.
She succeeds Adrian Pratt.
"Rita is extremely capable,
and we are delighted to be promoting her to the position of
publisher. In her 13 years with the company, she has gained
experience in every aspect of newspaper operations," said
President Will Morris.
Thomas was employed in a variety
of positions at the Log Cabin Democrat in Conway, Ark., for
12 years before being promoted to general manager of the Grand
Island (Neb.) Independent 14 months ago. She is a native of
Arkansas.
Morris Communications is a privately
held media company with diversified holdings that include
newspaper and magazine publishing, outdoor advertising, radio
broadcasting, book publishing and distribution, and computer
services.
