PHILLIPS NAMED PUBLISHER OF THE NEWTON KANSAN

AUGUSTA, Ga.—David A. Phillips has been named to the publisher's position of The Newton (Kan.) Kansan, effective Aug. 25. The announcement was made today by William S. Morris IV, president of the parent company. Phillips succeeds Douglas J. Anstaett.

Since 1997, the same year he joined Morris, Phillips has been circulation director of The Augusta Chronicle. He came to Augusta from the circulation director's position at the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett-owned newspaper.

Over his 29-year newspaper career, Phillips served in a variety of positions, including home delivery manager of the Pensacola News Journal and state circulation manager of the Arkansas Gazette.

"It is always a pleasure to promote talented, qualified people within the company," Morris said. "Dave Phillips will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the top spot in Newton."
