Reporting Ethics Violations

Morris Communications Company believes that providing an environment that supports the honesty, integrity, respect, trust, responsibility, and citizenship of every employee clears a path to excellence in our work place.

In accordance with our Code of Business Conduct, employees should report any suspected illegal or unethical behavior or other violations of company policy, including complaints regarding accounting, internal accounting control or auditing matters, to supervisors, managers or other appropriate personnel.

Usually your manager is in the best position to help you work through an issue. Your manager is responsible for supporting open discussion, working through the ethical questions you have, and guiding your access to further assistance as required.

In situations where you are uncomfortable talking with your manager, or your manager is unable to help, you should refer to the next level of management, your Publisher/General Manager.

If you have tried the above sources but still have questions, seek advice from your local HR Representative or from our Vice-President of Human Resources, Martha Jean McHaney, at 1-800-826-3655.

You also have another option: you may call a confidential employee line at 1-800-648-9516.

  • This is a toll-free, third party telephone service that employees may use to confidentially report suspected violations of our Human Resources policies, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act or other incidents of inappropriate business behavior.
  • To ensure that privacy and confidentiality are maintained, National Hotline Services, Inc., an independent firm, will operate all reports and/or complaints received via the Hotline.
  • You can call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to speak anonymously and in confidence with a National Hotline Services support specialist.
  • It is not necessary to give your name, but if you choose to do so, the information will be kept confidential unless, as in the case of certain crimes, a law requires that any name you supply be provided to enforcement officials or a court.
